The East End may work perfectly for you! Have you considered staying at "The Emerald" or "Palisade Palms"? Both are high rises located on the East End of the island and are simply a walk across the street to beach.

Pointe West is another area that is perfect for vacationers. Located on the beach, there is no need to cross the street. Go to our website (www.gulfcoastconcierge.com) to view a few of our properties or give us a call. I'm sure we can find you the perfect getaway on an excellent budget!!

Galveston.com & Company is seeking two seasonal employees for our call center. This position will run from now through Labor Day (Sept 7, 2009). Hours will vary between 30 and 35 hours weekly. The positions are both for nights & weekends. Weekday nights may begin as early as 4:30pm through 10pm. Weekends may range from 8am to 10pm depending on the shift. Employees will have the option to work from home after a two-week in office training period.

Responsibilities include:
- Call Center staff are responsible for handling incoming calls inquiring on:
                General Galveston information
                Searching for and booking hotel rooms
                Booking airport transfers
                Booking cruise ship parking
                Selling tickets to local shows and events all through our proprietary software.

Qualifications should include:
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-A positive attitude is extremely important - employees may be the first impression guests receive of Galveston Island.
-Ability to work independently
-Strong organizational; interpersonal and telephone skills
-Computer with high-speed internet
-Attention to detail and accuracy
-Computer & internet savvy
-Quiet work environment
-Punctuality is 100% critical.
-General knowledge of Galveston is preferred

I happened to be on the internet and saw this posting regarding the Maravilla at Galveston. I am disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your stay at the Maravilla. All condos, just like at Ocean Grove are individually owned. Yes, Ocean Grove is almost new, where the Maravilla is an older community and is always being improved. However, that being said, I am sure, Ocean Grove rents are substantially higher as well. All condos located on the seawall have a noise element with the cars riding by. That is why some people prefer to be a bit farther back. Most condos along the seawall do not have a beach in front. The owner as well as Ocean Grove should have told you this They might have suggested beaches closer by that are so much nicer to visit than 61st St.

Since Ike, the Maravilla, along with many condominiums along the seawall and beach are closed while the necessary repairs are completed. But we are looking forward to 2009 and our vacationers returning.

My advice is to research a bit better next time you choose a rental, (in galveston Gulf Front does not necessarily mean beachfront) so you won't be so disappointed. Personally, I have a 100% satisfaction rate on my condo at the Maravilla and have NEVER received a complaint. When Ike hit, I received numerous emails from past guests inquiring about how "BadaBeach" fared.

So, again, in defense of my community, I am sorry to hear you were disappointed. Hopefully, you will give Galveston another try and maybe the right condo at the Maravilla!

Hi y'all just checking in for "Roll Call." Although I haven't been posting...my heart is with you. Mr. and Mrs. dawg, Mr. and Mrs. Lurker, Missus Island Cat, Drew, Dix, Jim and everybody...you're in my thoughts. For those of you that live on the Island...wishing all the best always.

For as long as I can remember Galveston has been "My Happy Place." Not a day goes by that I don't let my mind wander down there. Whether I'm happy and well adjusted or a complete mental case it is and will always be Galveston that lifts my spirit!!! Hell I intend to have my ashes spread there. I'm sure y'all will let me know if that sounds a bit depressing?

No matter... if you live in DFW go to Krogers to shop...pick up a hurricane relief bag and donate it! They go from $5.00 or so on and up. Also, Galveston.com is making it easy for those of us too far away to feel as though we are helping. The sites they list are on the up and up! All of you in my neck of the woods MUST CONTRIBUTE... it will make you feel so very much better to help in any little way you can.

If anyone has any news on the status of the Elissa, please post it here soon. So many of us are very concerned about her and the two men that stayed on the island to watch over her. We have heard nothing since last night from them.
