Ok everybody hubby and kid and I are planning a trip to Galveston and we read the reviews for Comfort on 6302 Seawall and they weren't good. We weren't sure where to stay. Can anybody give me some opinions or suggestions on Comfort Inn or the Inn at the Waterpark or Beachcomber some help pleaseIdea

Until Ike, I would have whole-heartedly recommended the Flagship Hotel over the Water with its interesting quirks and all.  However, that's history, so this spring we were in the unusal position of, after having visited Galveston for almost 20 years, having to find a new place to stay.  The Comfort Inn you are talking about is in a hole with probably a lousy view of the beach, maybe next door to the Golden Corral, which I no longer refer people to.  The Inn at the Waterpark is an old Howard Johnson or something with a newer addition, so I guess 50/50 chances for a good room.  Great for visiting Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens but a ways from the beach.  The Beachcomber is a block or so from the beach, used to be a different brand, so I believe it's an older "budget" motel with renovations.

I am not going to gush about my new favorite place because I'm not sure of the reasonableness of their high season rates since we've only stayed there once at Easter, and I don't want them to get the idea that this is such a great place that they should raise their rates.  The Quality Inn just east of 61st/Seawall Blvd might be a good place for you to check into.  I won't say any more except that it is in the choice hotel group and sometimes if you call their special number to make the reservations, as well as double check for the lowest rates calling direct, they will sign you up as a choice privilege customer and offer you things like a $50 gas card for 3 nights stays at choice hotels.  (I am not a paid spokesperson, just a customer.)  Many people like the Commodore or Gaidos.  Of course, there are a number of pricier motel/hotels on the Island.  Tripadvisor.com is a fairly reliable source for info on what's available.

Wherever you stay, I hope you have a great time in Galveston.  Let us know how it turns out.

I am open to the suggestions of where you would suggest and we are looking to keep it at or under $430 for a 3 night stay. So your suggestions would be helpful I am not looking for a 5 star nor am I looking for a seedy ran down roach motel

What's affordable will depend on whether your three night stay encompasses two weekend nights.  Our long-standing favorite is Casa del Mar.  Over more than 20 years, I've never had a bad experience there.  But it's pricey on weekends.

Our last stay at Gaido's Seaside Inn in March 2009 was pleasant.  Their rooms are simple motel rooms, nothing fancy, but the room was clean and comfortable and the continental breakfast was adequate.

Since my rowdy family doesn't stay at B&Bs, I usually don't think about them much, but one of the forum members here has a bed & breakfast, and judging from the pictures I have seen here, it looks like a great historic home; hence, why my family doesn't stay there.  I believe it's called Coastal Dreams.  If I have the name wrong, someone else can chime in.

It is true about what time of the week you want to come down.  Weekends or special event days can be so much more expensive than other days.

Truly, if I wanted to come down to the Island, I would check out the Quality Inn.  It is across the street from the beach, near the convention center, clean, good employees, continental breakfast, but again not sure on the cost.

We haven't stayed there in several years, but used to alternate between Victorian and Casa del Mar according to who had the best rates.  It was a great place to stay then, and I hope it still is.  Enjoy your visit and update us on the Victorian.

Okay guys so as you know the hubby and kid and I took a mini vacation to Galveston and booked a room at the Vicitorian and to tell you the truth I was very please with it and we would stay again. Let me start by saying I was concerned about the reviews. Well check in time is 4 and they had a room clean and ready at noon. We went into the room and I was very pleased it was clean and cozy. My daughter loved the bunk beds and she also slept on the fold out sofa. We got a pool view and also ended up with a very nice view of the Seawall in the morning. It was the most amazing thing to watch the sun rise over the beach. They were very clean it was perfect for what we needed it for. I checked in with a rate of 473.80 for a 3 night stay and wound up only paying 358.80 that was great it meant we had more money to play with on our trip. We had a problem with the bathtub handle spraying water and I called maintence and they came in no more then 10 mins and he did everything to fix which he did. We also needed more towels while the maintence man was there and I called housekeeping and they told me it would be an hour well about 10 mins after maintence left housekeeping brought my towels and they were still hot from the dryer. The toilet stopped up while we were there and they were pretty prompt in coming and fixing it.Big Smile The Pizza was good for breakfast. We love seeing the sights on the Paradise over all we had a nice family vacation and had a nice place to stay we will come back and stay again. I was also happy to see that Murdoch's is in the process of rebuilding that was my favorite memory as a child coming to the Island and looking at Murdoch's.

Good to hear that the Victorian is still a good place to stay.  Glad you had a good visit to Galveston.
