I was listening to Margaritaville Radio on satellite this morning and they played Jerry Jeff Walker's cover of Red Neck Mother. They went on to mention that the song was written by Ray Wylie Hubbard and that he would be playing the Old Quarter down in Galveston tonight.

New Year's Resolutions

Some of you may be aware that, on New Years Day 1969, I made a New Year's resolution that I would make no more resolutions.

40 years is long enough.

I resolve to take a photo a day for the rest of the year.

I resolve to take a photography course at Galveston, and will not disagree with the instructor.

I resolve to clean our apartment this weekend, and keep it tidy.

Everyone knows the Jimmy Webb penned "Galveston" made famous by Glen Campbell. I think it has also been covered a few times by others. Bruce Springsteen has two, "Galveston Bay" and "Light of Day" that mentions our fair city. Anyone know of any others?

Tuna Does Vegas

The guys are back at the Grand 1894 Opera House Tuesdays through Sundays (with matinees on the weekends) through August 24 and it is HILARIOUS!!

Even if you saw it last year during its premere, you MUST see it again as they've made some additions -- shown in last Tuesday's Houston Chronicle, they are now Vegas showgirls and the costumes are so funny!! I saw it last Wednesday and Friday as a volunteer. The houses were only half-full and the ticket prices are real reasonable.

So, escape the heat and cool off with the laugh-a-minute "Tuna Does Vegas" at the Grand until Sunday, August 24.

We had a great Buffett thread on the old forum, so let's start a new one here.

I wasn't really a fan until I saw him one year at Jazz Fest. Bonnie Raitt had the 8-10 slot Friday night and promptly pulled the plug at 10. Someone told me she didn’t want to violate the noise ordinance. Who would have thought NO would have one? Jimmy headlined the following night and walked on stage about 7:15 or so and said “You guys mind if we start early? We got a whole lot of songs we want to sing.” I have been a fan ever since! I have read his books, visited his restaurants, constantly listen to his music, and have seen him live 3 times! Anyone that travels with a surf board, a guitar, and a fishing pole is alright in my book. Added points for still being married to wife #1.

Favorite songs “Bama Breeze”, “Come Monday”, and “A Pirate Looks at 40”.
