    08-29-2008 6:19 PM

I was on another forum, and a guy offered his house to me down there for 900 a month.. its on the west end across from a soccer field there. Its a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. If I can find a way, I want to get down there and check the place out.. and take him up on this offer. I also want to wait and see where this hurricane goes and does.

So People I maybe local soon..If I am.. I will invite you all over for a cook out.

God Speed to Galveston, A place I'll always cherish.. Good luck to everyone, including Dixie.. for some odd reason thinks I dont like her.

Muhnay and all, what has been your experience in searching for homes for rent?  Who has the upper hand out there, landlords or renters?  What I mean is... are there lots of homes available for (long-term) rent?  Also, would you prefer to rent on Galveston Island or Bayou Vista?

Landloards always have the upper hand. Read a standard lease contract. There are a lot of houses for lease, sale or rent on The Island, so it should be a renter's market. I live on The Island, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Do something, even if it's wrong.

I duno, maybe I'm schnical, but if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.  (Not true, that is)  Some of the prices they are asking are something else.

And lurker, I have always seen allot of houses for rent, but they don't seem to budge on the price.

It is the time of year it may be easier to find a home and lower rent. Muhnay go to realtor.com, they have a rental section and it is all done through realtors.Good luck, you will find the perfect one don't worry.

Muhnay, let us know if you were able to see the place and rent it or not.  Inquiring minds want to know. Big Smile

The House was On 7 mile road right across from a big Church. behind it was Soccer field. the Sea Wall ends right there at 7 mile road. I am guessing the house is gone now, from what the news and weather channel have been reporting. It was the corner house as you turn into the soccer field. If any of you are there, and can get that way.. let me know if the house survived.. it is on stilts. I want to move there even more now.  I think I can help rebuild what the strom took down.

I spoke with the guy who owns the house there on the Island, and with the NOAA page I posted in the IKE area, he and I see little damage to his home. He said his brother went by there and said there is no damage to the upper part. The lower area where the garage was has some damage.. He and I are talking now, and I am hopeing he will allow me to come down there and rent his house for a 6 months rent free as long as I am fixing it up, and helping around the city.

That sounds like a good idea for both of you.  I hope it works out.  If the house is still standing, maybe it was just "meant to be" I wish you the best Big Smile
