I am bringing my kids down the week of August 16th.  I can see on the Webcams that they are still working on some of the beaches.  We like to stay across from the beach and just walk over, but I don't want to be across from where they are working.  Can anyone please tell me which areas have been completed?  Maybe we can pick accomodations there.  Thanks!! 

Even the areas still being worked on are mostly open and safe. With Kids and central location desired I'd say Commodore or Gaido's. I can tell you we had an awesome experience at the newly renovated/re-opened La Qunita in June, however, NO beach there whatsoever. a block walk and you are in good shape though

Thank you Robin.  We have stayed at the Commodore in the past, and I do like that it is pretty central to everything.  I was just a bit concerned based on the images from the webcam.  Thanks again!!

You can check out some of the other threads, but we were at Commodore in April and beached it with no problems, the work has really been non-intrusive to the beach-bums near as I can tell

You might consider contacting the Galveston Chamber of Commerce. Perhaps thye will have more information on "dates and down the road beach construction locations. Had for us non connected folks to know all that information. Hope you have a great trip!

EDGE

The East End may work perfectly for you! Have you considered staying at "The Emerald" or "Palisade Palms"? Both are high rises located on the East End of the island and are simply a walk across the street to beach.

Funny that you should ask where to stay we just got back from vacation in Galveston and we stay at the Victorian and they were nice and clean and afforable. You might want to look into to staying there
