The fireworks were awesome. Sitting on a patio at the Commodore is a good place to be. WOW.

I am amazed at all the trash left on the beach though. And that the scraper would "clean" the beach before they picked it all up. I saw a bunch of broken bottles that could have been avoided.

It is very disheartening to see the trash left on the beach the day after the holiday.  We have to many visitors that take advantage of free parking and beach access yet can’t be bothered to pick up after themselves.

Everything that happens will happen today.

I've been on the road since before the fourth, so I missed most of the fireworks, etc.

Last year, we watched fireworks from the Flagship pier, and it was one of the best fourths we ever had.

I am curious.  Did they shoot off fireworks this year where they did last year sort of in front of the Commodore?

Did anyone manage to get up on the Flagship pier to watch from there or have they managed to keep people off of the pier?

Yes in front of the Commodore.   As for the flagship. I would not doubt there were some on there baed on the mess left on the beach between there and 37th street. If there are people who would leave a mess like that, there are those who would boldly go...

There is no way to access the Flagship.  The "road" leading up to the main parking lot was totally destroyed and is hanging by rebar (barely) and the only other access has been fenced off due to looters and vandals.

What a long, strange trip its been!!

That's what I meant with boldly go. I would bet there was some who didn't belong.

With the police trying to get people off the island I saw quite a few things going on that should not have been.

    Time Bandit,

The reason I asked if anyone had gotten up on the pier was because when we were there at Easter, it was supposed to be inaccessible; however, there was an armchair out on the pier that had been moved from one time to the next so someone had to had gotten up there and moved it.  We suspected that the railing that had fallen from the walkway on the other side of the pool from the drive made a sort of ladder up on to the pier for those who daringly ignore the signs to stay out.

    Just thought I would ask.

Actually there is a "ramp" on the east side of the property that anyone can access.  This was not destroyed by Ike.  The "drive-way" was totally destroyed by Ike.  The City of Galveston/Tillman Fertitta secured the property with fencing to stop the vandals.

And on one of our visits to the area, we saw two people swing themselves around the fencing as the came from the Flagship onto the sidewalk.  It was quite a feat.
