I keep getting asked if there is any chance we can either get some rain, or at least temperatures that are close to normal for this time of year. It seems like the August-like heat and drought is wearing out its welcome with many folks.

As it stands now, without some rain today or tomorrow, Galveston will have its driest May-June period in history.

Even though the disturbance in the southern Gulf of Mexico has pretty much fizzled out, all is not totally lost when it comes to rainfall chances in Galveston County. Fortunately, there is a slight chance that a little relief in the form of some precipitation and slightly cooler temperatures may be in the picture as we finish out the month.

A weak cool front lingering over north Texas, may set off some thunderstorms this afternoon and, perhaps, again tomorrow. If these develop as expected, they will have a decent chance of drifting south into southeast Texas this evening and again tomorrow. Unfortunately, the odds of us getting any meaningful rain over the next two days are not ones that you would want to bet the mortgage on.

In addition to the slight chance of rain over the next 2-3 days, we may actually see slightly lower humidity levels, which will result is a little less discomfort during the afternoon hours and a little cooler overnight temperatures, especially in the north parts of the county.

Looking further down the road, there appears to be little hope of any escape from the hot temperatures through the first third of July. On the plus side, there does appear to be somewhat better chances of more normal precipitation levels as we move through the first third of the coming month.
