Last week, I had the pleasure of taking a hard hat tour of the buildings owned by Mitchell Historic Properties which are all now under construction in downtown Galveston. It is so nice to see construction is underway. I know that many people have expressed concern about the future of The Strand and it's refreshing to see this activity downtown. Just as they did thirty-two years ago, the Mitchells are leading the effort to rehabilitate this historic landmark district.
To give you an idea of the impact of this commitment - Mitchell Historic Properties owns approximately one-fourth of the developed buidings in The Strand and this massive restoration project will cost more than $24 million on 24 buildings.
Below is an update on the tenants in Mitchell Historic Properties buildings that have indicated that they will reopen:
- Bass,
- Fuddruckers,
- IZOD,
- Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory,
- Van Heusen,
- Gracie's,
- Luigi's Ristorante Italiano,
- Santa Fe Trail,
- Tina's, and
- The Admiralty Marine Model Gallery
New tenants include Nestle Toll House Cafe and Olympia at Pier 21. Starbucks and Willie G's Restaurant reopened in December. Tenants should be able to return to their shops by mid- to late-March or April 2009.
